What Winter Skin Needs From a Serum

Winter skin wants water and a seal. A milky serum can be both the treatment and the drink.

Velora Beauty

Cold air outside and dry heat inside pull water out of the outer skin all day. A serum in that season should be a humectant first and a treatment second. Milky textures tend to win because they carry water and a little lipid, so they do not flash off and leave you tight. A watery essence with no follow-up cream will not save you. A heavy oil with no water underneath will only shine.

One serum is the rule when the cream is already doing part of the work. Look for formulas that firm, brighten, and hydrate without asking you to own three bottles for those three verbs. If a single milky serum covers them, use it morning and night under a cream, and stop auditioning a vitamin C, a peptide, and a hyaluronic acid as if they were a committee. They compete for attention and for your patience.

Give the combination two weeks before you add an acid back in. Winter is when people over-exfoliate to chase a glow and then wonder why everything stings. Hydrated skin looks brighter than scrubbed skin. That is the seasonal lesson, and it does not expire when the coat does.
