How to Tell a Trend From a Method

A trend needs an audience. A method still works when nobody is talking about it.

Trends arrive with a name and a deadline. Slugging, a new tool, a single ingredient declared finished or essential. They spread because they are easy to repeat in a sentence. A method is harder to post. It is an order you can do half-asleep: cleanse, one treatment at most, moisturize, protect in daylight. It does not require a new object every season.

The test is what happens when the audience leaves. If you would still do the step in six months, with no one to tell, it might be a method. If the step only makes sense as a response to a video, it is a trend, and your barrier is the one paying for the experiment. Trends are allowed as entertainment. They are expensive as instructions.

When something new appears, ask what job it replaces and what you will stop. If the answers are vague, keep your current order. Methods feel repetitive because they are. That repetition is the point. Skin changes slowly, and it prefers a plan that can be bored with you.
