Strong Light Is a Test of the Surface

Bathroom lighting is designed to be kind, or at least dim. Daylight and event lighting are not. They throw small shadows beside every flake and make dehydrated lines look deeper. Makeup that seemed blended at home can look powdered or patchy because the surface under it was never even. The light did not create the texture. It stopped hiding it.

You cannot change the light at the event. You can stop creating texture in the week before. No new exfoliant. A cream you already trust. Sunscreen so pigment is not adding blotch. If the skin is oily, blot later rather than mattifying until it creases. If it is dry, give moisturizer time to sink in before color. Strong light rewards that boring preparation more than a new highlight.

Use a window, once, as a rehearsal. If the cheek looks rough there, it will look rough under a brighter lamp. Fix the comfort of the skin, not the brightness of the room you get ready in. The test is the surface. Pass that, and harsher light becomes ordinary daylight.
